Glossary
Active listening is fully concentrating on, understanding, and responding to a speaker — listening to understand rather than to reply — including attention, reflecting back, and asking clarifying questions.
It is the foundation of nearly every other communication skill, and the one most people assume they already have. In practice, most conversations feature waiting-to-speak rather than genuine listening.
The World Economic Forum lists empathy and active listening among the core skills employers value most — and it is highly trainable through structured practice.
Tour De Force builds this in practice through Soft Skills training. Want a quick read on your team? Try the free self-check.
